SAGE Spend-A-Day is a licensed adult day care program serving older adults and caregivers throughout Union County, New Jersey, including Summit, Westfield, Cranford, Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Springfield and surrounding communities.
Since 1975, for over four decades, SAGE's Spend-A-Day Program has been offering comprehensive care and companionship to older adults who need support and can benefit from enhanced socialization outside their home.

Spend-A-Day Services Include:
- •Engaging interactive programming provided by our Recreation Team
- •Light breakfast, nutritional lunch and daily snacks
- •Assistance with toileting and ambulation
- •Nursing support for medical conditions, including medication administration
- •Social work support for participants, families and caregivers
- •On-site Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists
SAGE's Spend-A-Day Program is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health
The program provides an interactive environment for participants to enjoy memory enhancement activities including group discussions, active games, exercise programs, holiday celebrations and guest entertainers.
Full spectrum, Individual Care Plans are thoughtfully created for each participant with input from their family, their physician, and SAGE's Nurse, Social Worker and Recreation Team. All meals enjoyed by our participants are mindfully planned by a registered dietitian.

What days does the program run?
SAGE Spend-A-Day Adult Day Care operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We are open year-round and provide a structured, engaging environment for older adults throughout Union County, New Jersey. The program is closed on most major holidays. Please contact us for our current holiday schedule.
Is there a minimum/maximum number of days clients have to attend?
There is no minimum attendance requirement. Participants may attend anywhere from one to five days per week, depending on their needs, interests, and schedule. This flexible approach allows older adults and caregivers to choose the level of support that works best for them, whether they are looking for occasional respite care or more consistent adult day care services throughout the week.
Is there transportation included?
Yes. Transportation assistance is available for eligible participants through Union County Paratransit for residents of Union County. The current cost is $8 each way ($16 round trip). Transportation fees may be reduced or waived depending on a participant's funding source, insurance coverage, or program eligibility.
For participants who live outside Union County, NJ Transit's Access Link service may be an option. Families and caregivers are also welcome to provide their own transportation and may drop off and pick up participants directly at the program.

Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, etc.?
SAGE Spend-A-Day does not accept Medicare. We do accept Medicaid through participating providers, including Horizon and United Healthcare. We may also be able to work with Aetna through a non-participating provider agreement. Additional funding may be available through Veterans benefits, respite care programs, and other community resources. While we do not directly accept most long-term care insurance policies, our staff can help families obtain documentation needed for reimbursement when applicable.
Are there available funding opportunities?
Some individuals may qualify for financial assistance through the Alzheimer's Adult Day Services Program. Eligibility is generally based on financial criteria and a qualifying dementia diagnosis. Our staff can help families determine whether they may be eligible and guide them through the application process.
Is there a trial period?
SAGE Spend-A-Day does not offer a formal trial period. However, our team works closely with participants and families throughout the enrollment process to ensure the program is a good fit and that each individual receives the support they need.
Can I stop by and visit SAGE Eldercare?
Absolutely. We encourage prospective participants, family members, and caregivers to visit our facility and learn more about our adult day care services. Tours provide an opportunity to meet our staff, see the program in action, and ask questions about services, scheduling, transportation, and funding options.
